Welcome to London, a bustling metropolis oozing with history, culture and an unending list of things to see and do. From world-famous landmarks to lesser-known, quirky museums, there’s something for everyone in London – and plenty of cheap or free ways to enjoy the city’s attractions.
Top of most visitors’ sightseeing lists is Buckingham Palace, the official London residence of Britain’s monarchs since 1837. As well as being one of the most iconic buildings in the world, the Palace is also surrounded by beautiful gardens, and during the summer months you can watch the ceremonial Changing of the Guard.

Nearby is Westminster Abbey, a Gothic masterpiece and the traditional coronation church of English and, later, British monarchs. If you’re lucky enough to time your visit with Evensong, you can enjoy a free choral service in the Abbey’s stunning main space.
For breathtaking views across London, head to the top of the Shard, Western Europe’s tallest building. At a staggering 1,016ft high, the public observation deck on the 72nd floor gives visitors a bird’s eye view of the entire city.

If the weather isn’t great, escaping to a sunny beach is the next best thing. Kings Cross St Pancras station has its very own ‘beach’ made from 30 tonnes of sand, complete with palm trees, deck chairs and a mock deck bar. You could also try the indoor real snow slopes at Oxygen Free jumping Park in Acton – perfect for an action-packed day out.
Looking to try something completely and utterly unique? Then check out the Museum of Curiosity, an unconventional collection of interesting items and oddities all presented in an entertaining and thought-provoking way.
For food-lovers, London is full of excellent restaurants and cafés selling all sorts of international cuisine, as well as good old-fashioned traditional British pubs.
